'Whatever, That's Coming Back': Shiffrin Reveals What She Told Swiatek After Losing No. 1 Rank

Iga Swiatek has fostered some nice relationships with fellow athletes, including skier Mikaela Shiffrin, who recently spoke about her.

Iga Swiatek had an incredible year last year, and while she didn't have the same year this year, she still produced a solid level. A recent trophy at the China Open proves that, but even so, it wasn't enough to keep herself world number one spot on the WTA Tour.

She lost it to Aryna Sabalenka after an early exit at the US Open. It's not a huge deal for Swiatek, who wasn't bothered by it, but she liked holding it and obviously will want to get it back.

One athlete friend who has no qualms about Swiatek getting it done is skier Mikaela Shiffrin, who spoke with her a few times. She did again recently, revealing what she told her.

What I said to her is, ‘Whatever, that’s coming back. It’s the mentality that you have that’s unbeatable, so just keep going.

Shiffrin on Swiatek getting back number one

Shiffrin further spoke about Swiatek praising her for the way she handled great success at such an early age, especially since she compared it to herself. As a fellow athlete who is successful, Shiffrin knows what it's like, which is why she's so amazed by it.

I don’t know if she feels this way, but what I see is, I don’t know, modesty — but then a security in herself that you don’t often see with athletes so young that also have the success.

Shiffrin praises Swiatek for her humble nature

I didn’t know who the heck I was — I still kind of don’t — and somehow she just seems like she has certain things that are straight in her head. The answers she has now, already in her career, I wish I had those at that time in mine.
