Caroline Wozniacki thinks it's great to see Venus Williams still competing, and she certainly thinks she deserves any wild card she wants.
Venus Williams is an iconic tennis player, a living legend who is still out there competing. Most of the players she grew up with retired a long time ago, but the veteran is still out there competing because she loves the sport so much.
She's not winning much, but she's certainly giving her all, which is respectable. Wozniacki thinks it's great for the game to have a legend like that out there competing, and she certainly thinks that she deserves every wild card she receives, like the one at the 2024 Miami Open.
Some have suggested that wild cards for Venus are 'wasted' because she's not as likely to win as she used to be before, but Wozniacki disagrees.
In her mind, the legend has earned the right to get a wild card after dedicating so much of her life to tennis, certainly more so than some other players, like Simona Halep, whose wild card the Dane didn't agree with.
"I think it's amazing to see Venus still out there. I mean, she's 43 years old. She's a legend of the game. She's won so much. Really she's earned the right to do whatever she wants to do. If she wants to play another 10 years, that's great."
"If she wants to never play again, that's also great. I think it's just an inspiration to see her playing and fit out there competing against all these youngsters. It's not easy."
It's not clear how long we'll have Williams competing, but it seems that she'll likely complete the 2024 season. Some have suggested that this year will be the last one, but there aren't any hints.
"It takes a lot of hard work behind the scenes and practice and taking care of your body. I think it's always great to see her, see her in the draw."
