Mouratoglou Admits That Halep's Recent Results Have Been "Insufficient"

| by Jordan Reynolds

Simona Halep's recent results have not been what a top player like her expects, and her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, has acknowledged that has been the case since he joined her team.

Expectations were very high when Mouratoglou became Halep's coach. This is due to the Frenchman's record when working with players, which is one of the most impressive in tennis.

The most notable example is Mouratoglou's achievements with Serena Williams. Since he joined the legendary American's team, she has claimed eight Grand Slam titles and reached six other finals.

However, since Mouratoglou joined in April, Halep has not reached the heights of the past. She lost in the quarterfinal in Madrid, the second round in Rome, and the French Open.

To Mouratoglou's credit, recent remarks show that he is not absolving himself of any blame despite being in the early stages of his relationship with Halep. The Frenchman acknowledged that a player with Halep's ability should get better results.

"I’ve always been proud of my successes with my players, but then I also have to acknowledge when I’m not doing a good enough job. The results we’ve had the past month in Madrid, Rome and Roland-Garros are insufficient for someone of Simona Halep's caliber and I take full responsibility for them."

Mouratoglou then went even further with his comments. He said Halep had been fully committed during their time together and had even apologized for Halep's recent results.

"She is fully dedicated, motivated, gives it everything on every ball. She is a champion - her track record speaks for itself. I expect much better from myself and I want to extend my apologies to her fans who have always been so supportive."

It remains to be seen whether Halep's results with Mouratoglou will improve, but it certainly seems like the Frenchman will be fully honest during his time with her.
