Swiatek Shows No Mercy, Conquers Opponent in Crushing Defeat at Indian Wells

| by Zachary Wimer

The dominance of Iga Swiatek is crazy and it gets only crazier with every match that world no. 1 plays.

The world of tennis witnessed an absolute demolition at the 2023 Indian Wells as world No. 1 Iga Swiatek showed no mercy to her opponent, Claire Liu. The Polish tennis sensation was in fantastic form, as she demolished Liu 6-0, 6-1 in just an hour and five minutes.

Before playing in Indian Wells, the young Pole surprisingly lost to Barbora Krejcikova in Dubai, but it seems that she already forgot the loss as her second-round performance at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden was just out of this world.

In the first set, Swiatek broke her opponent three times, including a series of 11 points won in a row. Thanks to dropping only three points on her serve, the world no. 1 won the first set easily 6-0, breaking her opponent three times.

Liu showed her fighting spirit in the second set. The American improved and had chances to win some games, but none of that was enough as Swiatek had her first match point already in the sixth game to win the match 6-0, 6-0.

However, Liu showed that she didn't come to Indian Wells for a 'double bagel' and saved the match point to later win her first game of the match. The crowd erupted, but couldn't change the outcome of the match.

Swiatek would eventually hold her serve and win the match 6-0, 6-1 to make a step closer towards her title defense in Indian Wells. Up next, the Pole will await the 32nd-seeded Bianca Andreesco or Peyton Stearns.

This result was just another feather in the cap for Swiatek, who has been in fantastic form, winning multiple titles and breaking new records. She has seen an extraordinary climb in the tennis world, and she shows no signs of slowing down.
