Iga Swiatek kept her spot in the driver's seat intact, edging Aryna Sabalenka in the race for the coveted No. 1 ranking for the final Grand Slam of the season in the latest WTA Rankings.
The Canadian Open threw up major storylines, but also twists and turns before the upcoming 2023 US Open in a couple of weeks' time. Poland's Swiatek will remain No. 1 for the remainder of the US Swing, at least that bit is absolute.
Sabalenka's three-hour defeat to Liudmila Samsonova in Montreal handed Swiatek the keys to lock her place as the top seed in New York. It means even if Sabalenka won the Cincinnati Masters, she'd only get a maximum of 9,296 points, which is still lower than Swiatek's current points total of 9,730.
There is no movement in the world's Top 10, but newly-crowned Montreal champion and World No. 3 Jessica Pegula stretches her lead over fourth-placed Elena Rybakina to 275 points. The Kazakh has hinted at a potential withdrawal from Cincinnati due to niggling injuries. So Pegula is nailed on to be the third seed at the US Open.
Liudmila Samsonova rises to a career-high No. 12 by virtue of her runner-up finish in Canada. The Russian scored two Top-10 wins en route to the final, but the physical toll of playing two matches with a span of two hours in between proved insurmountable in the final where she lost quite comprehensively.
Danielle Collins' solid US swing took her on the verge of entering the Top 30 again. The American reached her third quarterfinal of the season on hard courts at the Canadian Open and jumps 14 spots to No. 34 and is a favorite to clinch a seeding spot for the US Open.
Bianca Andreescu exits the world's Top 50 after an early exit on home soil. Austria's Julia Grabher won the W100 ITF in Maspalomas and vaults to a career-high No. 54. China's Xinyu Wang moves up 14 places to a career-high ranking of No. 57 after winning the W100 ITF title in Landisville, Pennsylvania.
Another title winner at the weekend - Dayana Yastremska - is inching closer to a Top 100 return after lifting the 125K in Kozerki, Poland. The Ukrainian makes up 37 spots and is now ranked 112.
