A Russian State Duma member wants to get Daria Kasatkina listed as a 'foreign agent' due to her life choices.
The athlete who competed at the WTA Finals a month ago had a breakthrough year in 2022, taking home a number of awards and climbing into the top 10. She has been very active off the court as well, which bothers a particular Duma member who has previously criticized her.
“Kasatkina, (Karen) Khachanov, (Yevgeny) Kafelnikov openly criticize the actions of the Russian authorities, permanently residing outside the territory of the Russian Federation, acting in a neutral status [without the Russian flag and anthem], demonstrating to the whole world distancing themselves from the NWO and Russian society. Their actions fall under the law on foreign agents," said Teryushkov in a recent address.
Being included on that list isn't very good for someone who is Russian-born because of a number of factors, especially now that the law has been strengthened this year. In his remarks, Teryushkov also addressed Kasatkina directly:
“Kasatkina, I have submitted an appeal to the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation to include her in the list of foreign agents. The department responded with a formal reply, expressing disinterest in stopping the illegal actions of the tennis player. In turn, I re-sent a deputy request to check the legality of such a response and take appropriate measures."
She responded in a very Kasatkina way:
"How nice to have fans from the State Duma."
