Anett Kontaveit may be retired from professional tennis, but she wants to leave an indelible mark on the sport, which is why she is documenting her career and life away from tennis.
Pilgrim Publishing House, which has published over 500 books from both Estonian and foreign authors for 20 years, confirmed the news of Kontaveit's new book, which is expected to be released sometime in November.
Kontaveit is partnering famous writer Eia Uus in authoring the book that will unveil the former World No. 2's rise to the top and her own personal struggles with a chronic back injury that brought her tennis career to a standstill at the age of 27.
"Something beautiful is being born. Dear friends, we are pleased to inform you right here that Anett Kontaveit, published by Pilgrim and writer Eia Uus have joined hands to publish a book that has been awaited. This is a story of Anett reaching the absolute top of the tennis world and the challenges she faced there."
In the same post, a behind-the-scenes video of Kontaveit clad up for the official photoshoot and cover was also revealed. The retired WTA star is regarded as Estonia's best tennis player. She reached a career-high ranking of No. 2 in June 2022.
She won six career titles and is a former quarterfinalist of the Australian Open. Kontaveit formally retired from the sport at Wimbledon last year. But the 28-year-old completed a perfect sendoff in front of her home fans in an exhibition match with her good friend Ons Jabeur in Tallinn.
"My role in this book is to coax all of Anett's exciting stories out of her memory bank and combine them in a compelling way. I would like the reader to be able to hear the genuine voice of Anett herself - her thoughts and experiences in her own words."
