Emma Raducanu shockingly lost in the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, but she opted to look at the positives despite being disappointed.
Many penciled Raducanu into the quarter-finals of the grass-court major, but as tennis often proves, that's a grave mistake. Anything can happen, and quite an upset happened as qualifier Lulu Sun outplayed Raducanu in a tight three-set battle.
The New Zealander has been playing amazing tennis all week long, and she couldn't be stopped by the home crowd favorite. Raducanu certainly could have played better, but Sun was better, and her win was a fair outcome.
After the match, the British player lamented the loss but tried to look at the positives when discussing it. She also said that everything happens for a reason and that this will fuel her more.
"I beat two top 10 players within two weeks, which is a pretty big deal for me… I think I have to take confidence from that. 6 months ago, when I was starting out after surgery, I would’ve signed for the fourth round at Wimbledon."
Raducanu certainly has many positives to take from this run at Wimbledon, and a good part of the season is coming up for her. The US Open stretch is definitely something she remembers very fondly, and the conditions really suit her style of play.
She'll now have a few weeks to rest up after Wimbledon, but expect her to return to the courts quickly, as the US Open is coming up shortly. She won't play at the Olympics, which is probably a wise decision as there is no reason for her to return to clay, and with the determination she has, the former US Open champion can be really dangerous.
"Of course, I’m disappointed. Of course, I want more. Everything happens for a reason. It just fuels the fire and makes me more hungry."
