Ons Jabeur vs Lesia Tsurenko: 2024 Qatar Open Doha - Preview & Prediction

| by Zachary Wimer

Ons Jabeur had a tough experience last week in Abu Dhabi, but she hopes things will be much better this week at the 2024 Qatar Open.

Jabeur loves this Middle-Eastern stretch because she's quite popular in the region as an Arab woman. She's been the most prominent Arab tennis player for years, making this part of the calendar a unique experience for her.

Unfortunately for her, the Abu Dhabi Open campaign didn't go that well. She bested Emma Raducanu comfortably and looked really good, but then she totally flamed out in the next match, ending her Abu Dhabi campaign early.

It was a brutal loss for Jabeur, who was even spotted in tears on court, raising additional questions about whether she was struggling with an injury.

We'll see what happens in Doha, as she may still not be 100% fit, but the draw wasn't very easy for Jabeur, who got Lesia Tsurenko, a player who can be tough to deal with.

Head-to-head:

Jabeur and Tsurenko haven't played before, which is really surprising considering how long both of them have played. Jabeur traditionally performed pretty well in Doha, with a couple of notable results here in the past. Tsurenko obviously likes to play attacking tennis and will always be dangerous on the hard court.

Neither player is known to be spectacularly consistent, though Jabeur can generate more with her shots. I feel like she's the more spectacular hitter, able to produce something out of nothing.

Prediction:

Due to the way Jabeur plays, both her topspin and her variety, and her history at the event, it's pretty obvious that she is the right side to take here.

The crying situation certainly looked odd, but I'll trust the Tunisian to bounce back here, and then we'll see what happens when she faces a really high-ranking player.

Prediction: Ons Jabeur to win in two sets.
