Doubles partners Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff will fight for a spot in the 2023 WTA Finals, and it's going to be a good one.
This is a rather interesting matchup that we haven't seen that often. We've seen them on the same tennis court often, but it's for doubles as we only saw three matches between them.
It's been a solid week for both players, as they actually won matches. Last year's finals were dreadful for both as neither won a single match, singles or doubles. It's been better this time around despite the very complicated conditions that were particularly annoying for Gauff in her most recent match.
She faced Marketa Vondrousova and won, but the match was abandoned multiple times because of rain and featured heavy winds for much of it. It was really tough playing, and expect that to be the case today as well because the weather is not cooperating.
The previous matches were rather interesting. The first one happened last year and was Pegula's win in two sets. The next one at this year's Eastbourne event went to Gauff, while the most recent one at the Canadian Open went to Pegula.
It's hard to predict what will happen here because the conditions just make it impossible to do so. The winner is going to be the player who handles it better.
Pegula has generally played a bit more stable all week as she won all of her matches while Gauff lost to Swiatek. Pegula also had better conditions in her matches, so we have to see how she handles the rain and wind. Gauff has experience with it, but will it make a difference - I don't know.
I'll side with Gauff simply because I think she has the higher ceiling and better adaptability.
Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in three sets.
