Coco Gauff will put her winning streak on the line against Iga Swiatek, who has a habit of beating the American.
Gauff has been really great this week in Beijing, and it's been good to see her return to a solid level after her most recent tennis breakout. She was spectacular back home on US soil, winning three WTA trophies, including the US Open, which is by far the biggest one she's ever won.
She's trying to add another one to her cabinet, though getting to the final means she'll have to beat Iga Swiatek. It's been a very tough challenge in the past, but she passed the test the last time they played, so there is optimism.
Swiatek and Gauff played plenty of times in the past and the score is 7-1 for the Polish player. She dominated that matchup but lost the most recent match they played at the Cincinnati Masters.
It was a huge win for Gauff, who has never looked back. Now this new and improved version of her will try to do it again.
Is there a reason for optimism? Certainly, they played about as equal this week, and both have had matches that they could lose. Stylistically, the American should have a bit of an upper hand in these specific conditions, but it will mostly come down to the details.
Swiatek is still the better hitter right now, but Gauff has found ways to counter that. If she doesn't perform well from the baseline, though, she'll likely be in trouble as that's how she lost all those matches - she couldn't stay in the rallies.
So that's it basically: whoever does better from the baseline will win. It's tough to call, but I feel like Gauff, in these conditions, likely has the edge.
Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in three sets.
