Coco Gauff used some of her free time to explore the San Diego Twitchcon that happened over the weekend in the city.
Gauff, an American who will compete at the San Diego Open this week, took a break from the courts to learn more about the convention for Twitch platform streamers and users. Gauff enjoyed the experience and was familiar with many of the producers due to her frequent usage of social media:
"It was better than what I thought it would be. I got to see some of the people I've been watching online for years in person. I got to meet some of my favorite creators. I had a great time and I was glad I was able to go."
It's part of a concentrated effort by Gauff to focus more on relaxing and exploring some other interests besides tennis.
"I'm more stress-free," explained Gauff on the effort to be more explorative when travelling: "It was a big transition for me because I felt like I was surrounding my life with tennis. A year ago or even a couple of months ago there's no way I would have gone to TwitchCon before a tournament because I thought I had to solely focus my life on this."
"I realized that I have other interests and it's OK to embrace it. I started doing that in Paris, that's where it all started for me, and I found my results were much better. I realized it was the complete opposite of what I needed to do."
