Caroline Wozniacki will return to the tennis courts in February as she got a wild card entry into the 2024 San Diego Open.
The WTA 500 event in San Diego will run from February 26th to March 3rd, just ahead of the Indian Wells Open. It will serve as the preparation event for Wozniacki, who suddenly returned to the sport last year.
While many were unsure how that would go, the Danish player was actually quite impressive with her comeback, playing some really good matches. A return to the Australian Open earlier this year was quite emotional for Wozniacki, but she didn't really play all that well.
The hope is that moving forward, she does better, and her next event will be the San Diego Open later this month.
To play there, Wozniacki accepted a wild card entry and talked to the San Diego Union-Tribune, admitting that she had never spent any time in San Diego, so this would be a very exciting stay for her.
"I’ve never spent time in San Diego. I’ve heard it’s an amazing place. I can’t wait to come and look around town and play some great tennis. The weather is very nice. I want to get into the best form as possible."
The most important part about San Diego is that it will provide a real chance for her to see where she stands before the Indian Wells Open. After all, being a mother and having so many responsibilities makes it almost impossible to play every week, but that makes events like this one all the more important.
"It’s a whole different situation now that I have two kids, trying to balance things with being a mom and working full time on the tennis court. Also making sure my body is able to hold up. That’s why I’m choosing not to play every week, because I don’t feel like I can do that at this stage."
