After not playing since October last year, Bianca Andreescu returned to the WTA Tour during the clay-court part of the season and at the 2022 Italian Open she's doing really well.

In the first round, she defeated Emma Raducanu, then Nuria Parrizas-Diaz and in the third round of the 2022 Italian Open in Rome, Bianca Andreescu took on Petra Martic. The Croatian previously defeated the fifth-seeded Anett Kontaveit and was in good form.

It was a very solid performance by the young Canadian as she hit 3 aces and won 68% of points after her first serve. Moreover, she was very solid when facing breakpoints as she got broken only once out of 7 chances. On the other hand, when she had breakpoints, she succeeded in 3 out of 4 occasions.

In the first set, Martic was the first one to have a breakpoint but she failed to convert it and Andreescu used her chance in the ninth game and eventually won the first set 6-4. In the second set, Andreescu was more successful when breaking again, to win the match 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 44 minutes.
