Bianca Andreescu has not played in a while but she'll make her return at the WTA event in San Diego using her protected ranking to enter.
Seven of the top 10 WTA players are expected to compete at the San Diego Open and the Canadian should be there together with many other outstanding tennis players. It will serve as a fantastic warm-up for the WTA 1000 tournament in Guadalajara the following week. However, Bianca Andreescu is not yet among the players that qualified for the main draw and so she either expects to receive a wild-card or knows about a couple of players that will withdraw.
She used the social media platform Twitter to announce her participation at the event. She simply wrote: "The journey continues. San Diego Open next"
Her season has been up and down, as she only played 26 matches, winning 16 of them. She wants to end it strongly because it will give her the confidence she needs for next year.
Thanks to using her protected ranking to enter the event, she will hope to avoid having to play the qualifiers. Andreescu's last event prior to this one was the US Open where she was beaten by Caroline Garcia in the 3rd round.
