Jannik Sinner won his maiden ATP Finals title on Sunday and is now among the Top 10 prize money earners in ATP history.
Expectations were high for Sinner ahead of 2024. He had finished the 2023 season very strongly, winning the Davis Cup with Team Italy, and was also the runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals.
However, what the 23-year-old managed to achieve this year may even have surprised Sinner himself. The Italian won his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open after recovering from two sets behind against Daniil Medvedev in the final.
Further titles followed at the Rotterdam Open and Miami Open. Sinner became the world No. 1 for the first after the French Open, overtaking Novak Djokovic at the top of the ATP rankings.
Carlos Alcaraz won the French Open and Wimbledon, but Sinner resumed his dominance on hard courts afterward by winning the US Open, beating Taylor Fritz in a one-sided final. He also secured the Cincinnati Open title before that.
After being the runner-up to Alcaraz in the China Open final and winning the Shanghai Masters, Sinner became the fastest ATP player to guarantee his place as the year-end No. 1 since Djokovic in 2015.
Some players may have relaxed after that achievement, but Sinner's relentless attitude did not allow him to do that. The two-time Grand Slam winner moved into the final of the season-ending tournament in Turin without dropping a set.
Sinner faced Fritz in a repeat of the US Open final, but the outcome was the same. The Italian triumphed 6-4, 6-4 in front of a passionate home crowd to win the most significant title of his career outside the Grand Slams.
The world No. 1 earned a massive $4,881,100 for securing the ATP Finals title. Incredibly, that is not Sinner's biggest prize money win of 2024. Last month, he collected $6,000,000 for winning three matches at the Six Kings Slam exhibition.
Sinner's efforts at the ATP Finals mean he has now earned $33,989,584 throughout his career. He was at No. 16 on the prize money list before the tournament began, but the Italian jumped six places after winning the title.
This year's US Open champion leapfrogged Tomas Berdych, Andre Agassi, Dominic Thiem, David Ferrer, Marin Cilic, and Stefanos Tsitsipas to leave himself at No. 10 on the all-time prize money list.
His biggest rival, Alcaraz, is one place ahead of him. Despite being just 21, the Spaniard has already earned $36,148,985, which will undoubtedly rise steeply.
Novak Djokovic is far ahead of any other player at No. 1 with $185,065,269. Rafael Nadal sits at No. 2 with $134,946,100, and Roger Federer's $130,594,339 puts him at No. 3 on the list.
Andy Murray, Alexander Zverev, Pete Sampras, Daniil Medvedev, and Stan Wawrinka are the other men in the Top 10. Sinner and Alcaraz getting near the numbers of Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer cannot be ruled out after their outstanding development in 2024.
