Alexander Zverev faced some issues but overcame them to beat Arthur Fils in three sets and book a place in the semi-final of the 2024 Halle Open.
The German player faced some really stiff competition from Fils in this match, but he managed to come out on top. Zverev has been coming back to Halle for a few years now even though his grass record isn't the best.
Based on his qualities, he should be doing well on the surface, but it never quite works out for him. Still, his this year's performance in Halle has been great, which is why he found himself in the quarter-final of the ATP 500 tournament.
The opponent was more than worthy, as he took the opening set. The Frenchman played a strong opening set, not allowing much to his opponent on his serve while creating a solid amount of pressure on Zverev.
He even had a break point but failed to use it, while Zverev never got to see one. A tie-break decided the opening set, and Fils won it 7-5.
The second set then flipped the script, as Zverev largely dominated on his serve. He didn't give Fils anything while doing a solid amount of damage on the second serve to get break chances, which he could use to win the second set 6-3 and force the decider.
The start of the third set was very competitive, as both players dominated on the serve without any chances for either. Zverev fought his way to some break chances at 3-3 and used them to take a 4-3 lead.
It was all he needed because he was firing on all cylinders on his own serve, which allowed him to complete a comeback and win the match 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4, and advanced to the 2024 Halle Open semi-finals.
