'My Worst Tennis Since 2015': Zverev Disappointed After Another Early Exit

| by Kadir Macar

Alexander Zverev is not playing very good tennis right now and he was very dejected following his match while talking with the media.

Zverev's comeback this year has gone rather differently than many expected. Despite taking a conservative approach to his ankle injury and taking his time, the German is yet to find anything resembling the sort of level he had last year when he got injured.

Wins here and there do happen but the moment he faces a really good player, Zverev can't produce his top level. A 3rd consecutive defeat to Medvedev at the Italian Open in Rome just further demonstrated how he's nowhere near to challenging for trophies.

I have no desire to say anything because I'm out earlier than I wanted to be, 1,000 kilometers away. If you want to say you're in it, then you have to win at least once. And I'm not doing that.

There weren't any smiles in the room while Zverev was talking as the reality of the situation looks rather bleak. His tennis isn't very good right now and with a lot of points at stake at Roland Garros, he's looking at a dangerous prospect in the near future.

I'm not able to go deep at a tournament at the moment. This is probably my worst tennis since 2015, 2016. There is a reason for that ... I've not forgotten how to play tennis, but that is the reality of the situation at the moment and you can't talk it up.

It's hard to predict what will happen in Paris but there will be a lot of emotions for Zverev. It's there that suffered the horrific injury, one that looked career-threatening when it happened. Overcoming that on a personal level will be tough, and there is very little optimism to fall back on in the weeks prior.
