John McEnroe is in London for the Laver Cup and talking to Eurosport McEnroe paid a tribute to Roger Federer ahead of his retirement.

Even though McEnroe wouldn't have missed Federer's retirement in the first place, the fact that it took place at the Laver Cup, where the American is Team Captain, gave him tremendous comfort. Normally, the ex-player works as an analyst for Eurosport during major tournaments, but this time he was interviewed by them and he chose to honour Federer.

Speaking directly into the camera, McEnroe said:

“You're obviously a class act. I've loved watching you play and commentating your matches has been a privilege. You are the most beautiful player that I've ever seen on a tennis court. And I idolised Rod Laver - so that tells you something."

He further thanked him for everything he did:

“Thank you for everything you've done. That's all I can say. Your absolute love of the game, it rubs off on all of us. And I've got goosebumps just feeling that because it's been a pleasure to watch you these last 20 years.”
