Wawrinka Confident Of Being Able To 'Beat A Lot Of Players'

| by Balasz Virag

Stan Wawrinka turned around the match against Tallon Griekspoor leaving the court quite confident in his game.

It was a good match from the former champion with some vintage backhands winners more than once in this match. Still, it wasn't a perfect match for Wawrinka as he was up a break twice in the final set and almost threw away the second one too. Eventually, he won the match, but he was focused on his level mostly.

I know my level, I know that I can beat a lot of players. So, week after week, I'll try to win as much as I can.

It's been a decent year for Wawrinka so far with some very good wins. Clay is a bit tricky for him as he's not as quick around the court as before but if a player gives him the chance to set his feet properly and unload from his backhand, he'll be dangerous. He's confident in the way he's playing right now so that's half the struggle most times.

Win as many much as possible. I'm happy with the way I'm playing, with the way I'm practising, been trying to push myself. I still try to improve but again with my ranking, I can play any player on the first round. So, it's not easy to put a goal like to be a top-50 or whatever.

This is a good time for Wawrinka as his return wasn't that smooth. He admitted as much after this win, noting that he struggled to find his form as well as dealing with a lot of self-doubts which sabotaged his tennis as well. Compared to that, this is much better.

I was struggling to find my game in general. I was battling with myself to be more confident with what I was doing. But, it was important to fight until the end and get the win.
