Frances Tiafoe took part in an ATP feature where players were asked to predict some things about the upcoming grass season and he correctly called himself winning a maiden trophy on grass.
Frances Tiafoe has been always considered a very talented player who hasn't quite figured out how he wants to play. Some of that was to him being unserious at times but with time the American became serious about his craft and with a great coach in place, Wayne Ferreira, the American started to slowly work his way to the top of the ATP Tour.
He's not there yet but he's probably eclipsed predictions that many had after his first year or two among the professionals. 2022 saw him make a huge step on the big scene as he put together an incredible run at the US Open narrowly missing out on the final.
This year saw him continue that great player as he's already won a couple of trophies this year. He did it on several surfaces taking Houston earlier this year on clay and now Stuttgart on grass. The final against Struff was a really close one but Tiafoe managed to get it done in three sets and in many ways, it's the biggest win of his career.
It's not because of the trophy or the player he faced but rather the significance of it. With the victory, Tiafoe officially became a Top 10 player on June 19th, 2023. Another cool thing about that trophy is Tiafoe predicted it earlier this year.
He was part of a feature for the ATP where he and fellow colleagues predicted some things about the grass season as well as the 2023 season overall. Asked which player would win his maiden grass trophy, the American didn't hesitate a second saying:
Frances Tiafoe
When asked about a Top 10 breakthrough, Tiafoe provided the same response as he did to some other questions. You can check out the prediction along with his other predictions below.
