Two of the top three favorites for the 2024 Wimbledon Championships will meet on the practice court day prior to the draw.
Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner are arguably two of the biggest favorites to win at SW19, along with the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. The top two seeds know that if they meet, it won't be before a final, and more than two weeks prior to their possible final match, they will meet on a practice court.
The Serbian had knee surgery only recently, and for a moment, it seemed that his Wimbledon participation may be in doubt, but it's starting to look increasingly likely that he will not only make it to the tournament, but also enter it as one of the favorites for the trophy.
He has been increasing his intensity in practice, and after beating Federico Coria and Frances Tiafoe, the 37-year-old will play a practice match against the reigning world no. 1, Sinner.
According to the Italian publication Gazzetta, the two booked a practice court for one hour for Thursday, when they will test each other's game ahead of the season's third major.
While Djokovic will be coming into the match with only the two aforementioned practice matches under his belt, the Italian's situation is much better.
Only recently, he played his first tournament as the world no. 1 player, and he ended it by lifting the trophy, beating Hubert Hurkacz in the final of the 2024 Halle Open.
What will play in the 24-time Grand Slam winner's advantage is the fact that the won the tournament at SW19 seven times, the second-most out of all men that have ever competed at Wimbledon.
Sinner, on the other hand, lost in the first round on his debut in 2021, but he reached the quarter-finals in 2022 and semi-finals last year, but each time, it was Djokovic who stopped his journey.
