By winning the Paris Masters, Holger Rune shocked everyone—including himself—and his excitement was evident after the match.
After scoring the biggest win of his career, Rune's words were filled with nothing but sheer joy. He was only able to win one set in his first encounter against Djokovic, which was contested on Arthur Ashe in New York but he did much better this time around.
Although Accord Arena is not as large as Ashe Stadium, the exceptional level he demonstrated there was well worth the trophy he received.
"It's quite incredible," said a smiling Rune. "To stay here with the trophy, it's an amazing feeling. Something that was tough to expect, starting the week off having three match points down. Then now to be able to be here with this beautiful trophy is an absolutely amazing feeling."
Things were difficult to put into words at the time, but speaking quite some time after receiving the trophy, Rune finally had time to consider everything: "It was very emotional after the match. It's probably the best feeling of my life, of my whole career."
"It's kind of a small dream come true, even though I have bigger dreams. It's a really good step on the way to be able to play these kind of matches against one of the greatest players like Novak. To be able to win that last game was the biggest relief of my life. My stress level was very high, so I'm super happy to come through," concluded Rune.
