Carlos Alcaraz has been speaking this week to the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast ahead of his participation in the Rio Open this week.
The teenage sensation revealed how much of a surprise his stunning breakthrough season was last year, and what motivates him to replicate such achievements.
The young Spaniard also shared details of what he believes is the secret to success, and will be key for him to implement if he is to wrestle the top position back off current World No. 1, Novak Djokovic.
It was a dream season for me, so many big titles. I remember that I didn't expect the season that I, that I'm having so many titles, big titles. My first one is when I won Miami. You have to believe in yourself, you have to believe you can win every match, every tournament, you know. I want more in every tournament and that’s the key to everything, to believe in yourself, to be calm and to be your hundred percent your whole year and to be strong in the tough moments.
But I have to, to be prepared to, to work hard to, to come back to, to number one, you know, but it's, it's still training and giving the, the a hundred percent every day, and of course, still learning every day. I would say that's the, the key to, to stay in the top.
Alcaraz has had a tough start to 2023 so far, being forced to withdraw from the Australian Open due to a leg injury. However, on his comeback to competitive tennis, the US Open champion won the title in Buenos Aries last week.
He will next play Alves of Brazil in the Rio Open.
