Jannik Sinner will play at the 2024 Roland Garros despite not being 100% healthy, dismissing worries about his hip's condition.
This year has been an interesting mix for the young Italian, who opened it brilliantly with a title run at the Australian Open. He added a trophy in Rotterdam, after which he won the Miami Open as well.
The Monte-Carlo Masters was the first big disappointment, not so much because he lost but because his body betrayed him. He suffered a minor injury in Monaco, but it didn't really impact him too much, as he returned to Madrid not long after.
There, he suffered a big disappointment: a hip injury, which later forced him to withdraw from the Italian Open in Rome. That's a home ATP Masters 1000 event for him, and missing it was painful.
The hip injury was not minor because, it was possible that he would possibly miss Roland Garros, which would be a disaster. He won't, as he confirmed his participation by traveling to the French capital and once more by confirming that he's not worried about his hip anymore, during a pre-tournament press conference.
"I’m not concerned about the hip anymore. The physical condition is not 100%, of course, but we can't do magical stuff. I know I can play good tennis, even in the kind of shape I'm right know. I decided to play because it's an important tournament."
Not being 100% is obviously less than ideal, but Sinner is confident that he can play well even in this condition. He practiced for a few days and was happy with how it went, so he decided to give it a go because it was a Grand Slam.
"It could be very important, it's a Grand Slam, I want to be part of it if my body allows it. I practiced these last three days, I'm confident on the fact that it'll be better and better every day."
