| by Sebastian Dahlman

Jannik Sinner was Italy's most valuable player in their triumphant 2023 Davis Cup run, delivering in both singles and doubles, and he called the win special.

Sinner and the Italian media have had a somewhat strained relationship because he was called out multiple times for not playing for Italy. The Italian never dodged it on purpose but opted to prioritize different things at different times.

He signed up to play this year, and it was perfect timing because his tennis has never been better. He has been amazing indoors for a few years but went to another level this year.

The win over Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals last week and then once more this week proves that. He won all of his matches both singles and doubles, and won the final one, which clinched the trophy.

It was a huge moment, and during the post-match press conference, he explained how special the triumph was to him.

Sinner praised the efforts of his team in qualifying for the Final Eight because he didn't play in Bologna. It was a tough time for the Italian, who barely pulled out in the absence of both him and Matteo Berrettini.

He was one point away from losing against Djokovic on three consecutive occasions, but they endured all to win the trophy.
