Sinner Continues Australian Open Campaign With Another Spectacular Win

| by Erik Virostko

Jannik Sinner is one of the 2024 Australian Open favourites, and he proved why during a second-round win against Jesper De Jong.

With a lot of rain coming down at the Melbourne Park, fans couldn't watch any action on the outside courts, and they were treated only to three matches at the start of Day 4 of the tournament.

16-year-old prodigy Mirra Andreeva shocked Ons Jabeur at the Rod Laver Arena, while 2018 champion Caroline Wozniacki was eliminated at the John Cain Arena, and Sinner wanted to avoid an upset at the Margaret Court Arena.

However, it didn't look like an upset was brewing for any part of his match, as the young Italian controlled it from start to finish, never allowing his opponent to even think about how it would feel to win a set, let alone the match.

The fourth seed started with an impressive showing in the first set, losing only four points on his serve, while breaking the Dutch player twice to win it easily 6-2.

In the second set, the Italian continued with the same kind of intensity, but this time, he improved on his serve even more, losing only three points on his way to another 6-2 crushing.

As if Sinner's serving stats weren't nearly perfect, he lost only three more points on his serve in the third set, while once again, breaking his opponent's serve twice to win the match 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in only an hour and 45 minutes.

In the next round, he will await the winner of the match between the 26th-seeded Sebastian Baez and Daniel Elahi Galan, who will be hoping that Sinner doesn't deliver another performance similar to this one, as that would mean their chances would be non-existent.
