Holger Rune finally collected the BMW he won at last year's Munich Open, and he promises another return to the Bavarian city.
Winning an event in tennis is never a bad idea because, most of the time, players get nicely rewarded. The overwhelming amount of time it's a good champion purse, which is more than enough, but some events add something on top of that.
Such is the Munich Open, which promises a BMW car to the event's winner, as the tournament is also called the BMW Open for sponsorship reasons. On the women's side, there is the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix with a similar promise, giving the winner a brand new Porsche.
In Munich, Rune won the event twice. The first time around, his triumph came after a retirement from Botic van de Zandschulp just a few games into the match.
The second time, he also won against van de Zandschulp, but this time Rune won 6-4, 1-6, 7-6, which won him the champion purse and another BMW car. A year after he did it, Rune collected the car in Monaco.
He seemed pretty excited by it, sharing snapshots from the day and showcasing his brand-new car, which took a while to manufacture while confirming his participation at the event in April.
"This beauty I won at the @BMW open last year, all built as I like. Happy to get it today from @BMWstoreMonaco and excited to come back to Munich for the third time to defend my title in April."
Like Iga Swiatek in Stuttgart, where she has received two Porsches for her wins, Rune will likely need a larger garage if he keeps succeeding in Munich, as his third BMW may await him this year at the ATP 250 clay-court tournament played in the Bavarian city.
