Roger Federer gets standing ovation at Swiss Sports Award

Roger Federer was in New York a few days ago but popped back up in Switzerland recently to receive a well-deserved standing ovation.

The Swiss Maestro is one of the most influential athletes ever, and without a doubt, the most influential tennis player in the history of the sport. He has transcended the sport forever, and inspired millions around the world to pick up a tennis racquet.

Recently, Federer retired from professional tennis at the 2022 Laver Cup, an exhibition tennis tournament that he co-owns. Ever since his retirement from competitive tennis, he has stayed busy.

The former Swiss player spent some time in the United States for a TV appearance after traveling to Tokyo for a UNIQLO event. Now that he is back in Switzerland, he has been honored with a Swiss Sports Awards honorary award.

Federer was given a standing ovation for all of his accomplishments at the ceremony in Zurich. He is regarded as one of the best tennis players of all time, if not the best, winning 103 ATP titles and 20 Grand Slams during his career.

During the ceremony, the former world no. 1 talked about his retirement, suggesting that he's happy to be in this part of his life, and despite initially fearing the move, it is now better than he initially thought.

"I’m happy to have managed to move on to my post-career. It was something I feared. But it went better than I thought."

Despite ending his professional tennis career, Federer will likely remain in the public eye for years to come. He had a massive influence on the sport and many fans, and anytime he makes a public appearance, he will be asked many questions, as many tennis fans around the world are interested in what he's up to after his retirement.
