Toni Nadal dispelled retirement rumors, confirming Rafael Nadal's recovery progress and commitment to compete at Roland Garros.

After the withdrawal of the 22-time Grand Slam champion from the 2023 Madrid Open due to injury, concerns about his fitness ahead of the upcoming Roland Garros rose to an all-time high. However, Toni Nadal, Rafa's uncle and former coach, has put these worries to rest by confirming to Radio Marca, as reported by ElEspanol, that the Spanish tennis star will indeed make his return at the iconic French Open.

Rafael Nadal, a fourteen-time Roland Garros champion, has faced an increasingly challenging battle with injuries in recent months. This situation has led to rumors about the possibility of his retirement from professional tennis. However, Toni Nadal has effectively dismissed also these speculations, insisting that Rafa remains determined to recover and continue competing at the highest level.

In the interview, Toni Nadal acknowledged that his nephew's absence from the Madrid Open is a setback in his preparation for the season's major goal, the Roland Garros tournament.

"He would like to be competing now, but it won't be long before that comes. He is going to play in Paris, although it will be important to measure his aspirations there how he will train these next few weeks, and what he can do in Rome."

The 62-year-old also dismissed any rumours about possible retirement as the 22-time Grand Slam champion remains focused on the present and what he's capable of achieving on the ATP Tour.

"He is not thinking about retirement, he just wants to recover well and continue competing because he is passionate about this sport."
