Novak Djokovic has now confirmed his schedule for the rest of the year after withdrawing from the 2023 Shanghai Masters, the penultimate ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
It's been quite an eventful year for Novak Djokovic, who narrowly missed out on completing the Calendar Grand Slam this year. An almost impossible defensive shot by Alcaraz at Wimbledon denied Djokovic a break in the final set of their Wimbledon clash, which eventually lost him the match, and his only major final in 2023.
In the other three Grand Slams, Djokovic won comfortably. The US Open was the most recent one, as he bested Daniil Medvedev in the final, and everybody knew that a vacation was on the horizon. Djokovic postponed it to help his country secure a spot in the Final 8 of the Davis Cup Finals, but he's on it right now.
A few days after helping Serbia, Djokovic confirmed his withdrawal from the Shanghai Masters, which basically meant that we wouldn't see him anymore for a while that's now been confirmed. Since then, he has updated his upcoming schedule, which will now include only three events until the end of the year.
They are the Paris Masters, which runs from October 30th till the 5th of November. The next event he'll play is the ATP Finals, which are played from November 12th till November 19th, and finally, he will play the Davis Cup Finals, hoping to lead the country to the top once more.
This is hardly a surprise for any tennis fan as the writings were on the wall for this one. There is no need to push himself further than these events, and he would have likely skipped Paris, but it's a tournament where he played the final last year, and one that can help him this year too.
It's the perfect tune-up event for the ATP Finals as it provides both strong competition as well as similar conditions to those in Turin.
