Nick Kyrgios, the runner-up at Wimbledon, has been given a wildcard to play in Cincinnati the 2nd of two ATP 1000 events leading up to the US Open.
Nick Kyrgios has had mixed results at Cincinnati over the years which is pretty in line with how he usually does on most events. When he took the event seriously he did really well as his best result came back in 2017. Kyrgios defeated Rafael Nadal en route to the final where he lost to Grigor Dimitrov. Since then Kyrgios largely bombed at the event playing it in 2019 for the last time.
He will make his return this year and he's been given a wild card entry in order to avoid having to play qualifiers. It's quite lucky for Kyrgios to get it considering the US has lots of young players that could use it but he certainly deserved it. Had Wimbledon awarded points, Kyrgios would have been easily accepted as a direct acceptance.
The Australian has played strong tennis this year posting a 21-7 record so far. His Wimbledon final shows that he's taken his tennis quite seriously this year.
