Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev: 2024 Wimbledon - Preview & Prediction

| by Zachary Wimer

Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev will write yet another chapter of their rivalry at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, playing for a semi-final spot.

The two didn't start out as fierce rivals on the ATP Tour, but in the past year, they played a few high-stakes matches, and it certainly blossomed into one. They've played seven matches since the start of 2023, and five of them were finals.

That's certainly an added element to the rivalry, especially since the Italian won four of those, including the most recent final at the 2024 Australian Open, which is, of course, a Grand Slam.

Both have looked good so far at Wimbledon because both are good players on grass. Sinner is ranked at the higher moment and has had very good success against Medvedev in the past, but they have never played against each other on grass before.

Head-to-head:

So far, we've seen 11 matches between the two, and Medvedev leads the H2H 6-5. However, if we look at the matches played since the start of 2023, Sinner leads the H2H 5-2 in those matches.

He clearly flipped the matchup in his favor, but the grass has the potential to be a bit different. Medvedev is not as good a hitter as Sinner, but he has ways to frustrate the Italian. Don't forget that he led the Italian 2-0 in sets earlier this year at the Australian Open.

Jannik Sinner Daniil Medvedev
5 H2H 6
1 Rank 5
22 Age 28
42-3 2024 W/L 32-9
232-77 Career W/L 365-145

Prediction:

Ultimately, the match will be on Sinner's racket, and he will win if he plays the way he can. His serve is definitely dangerous enough, and he can hit far better than the Russian player. If he misses a bit too much, he might lose the match because, at the end of the day, it's the former World No. 1 that he will have to beat.

Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in four sets.
