Jannik Sinner vs Christopher Eubanks: 2024 Roland Garros - Preview & Prediction

| by Zachary Wimer

Jannik Sinner will play at the 2024 Roland Garros, and he will face Christopher Eubanks, who will not be an easy match.

Sinner's participation at this year's Roland Garros was not certain just a week ago because the Italian was actually advised by doctors not to play the event. The reason was his hip injury sustained in Madrid a few weeks ago, which caused him to miss the Italian Open.

Obviously, we don't know how serious it was because he never really provided a very specific update, but reports indicated that it's more complicated than initially thought. Now, he's back, and he's feeling good, though he admitted that he's not 100%.

We don't really know what that means in practice because the match will tell us more. Sinner is seemingly confident he can go deep even if he's not 100%. His opponent doesn't do really well on clay, so this match shouldn't be a huge problem for the Italian.

Head-to-head:

To demonstrate how much Eubanks struggles on clay, it's enough to say that he's 0-5 this year on the surface. He went 1-2 last year and holds a 6-16 record overall, so Sinner's confidence is pretty warranted when it comes to this match.

He faced Eubanks once before and comfortably bested him at the 2022 US Open 6-4, 7-6(6), 6-2, and in theory, he shouldn't have any more problems on clay.

Prediction:

Sinner's practices have apparently gone well, but matches are a bit different. He should win this match, but we'll see just how well he plays and how limited his movement is, if at all. The sheer difference in their historic performances on clay is too vast to overcome, though.

Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in three sets.
