Jack Sock is not playing tennis as much as he used but he found himself enjoying pickleball quite a bit with his pro debut looming.
Sock was always a very exciting tennis player who at the height of his career even played at the ATP Finals in London. It's been a long time since then with the American's career largely derailed by injuries however he is still finding a way to entertain people with his skills, but recently hinted at possible retirement.
Sock is a natural fit on a pickleball court as it allows him to show flashes of his nice touch as well as his ability to entertain large crowds. He will officially make his pro debut in Charlotte this week playing in the singles, doubles, and mixed doubles of the North Carolina Open.
In the most modest way, in the most humble way, the things that I’m good at in tennis, kind of the handsy chess match, that shows a little more in doubles. Singles is tougher to display the more handsy, finesse, feel-of-stuff, as things are happening fast. Pickleball, you have to slow down for a pretty good amount. You pick and choose your times to be aggressive. You have to be more patient for sure over the course of the match.
Sock has not been the only former tennis player that found enjoyment in the sport. Many have, especially Americans like John Isner who is also a big fan of it. Former player John McEnroe blasted the emerging sport more than once though he played it at a recent event alongside other former players and legends of tennis.
Tennis is more full steam ahead a lot of the time, and the obvious is the smaller court. Less court to cover! I think the cat and mouse, the handsy stuff I love doing ... it is very much enjoyable.
