Mental strength is one of the most important factors for any athlete but especially a tennis player who is alone on the tennis court and has to fight even if the match is not going his way.
Roger Federer is one of the players that always fought and seemingly remained calm also in the most tense situations on the tennis court. However, the Swiss Maestro also needed some time to learn how he performs the best on court and he needed to find the right balance that later led him to 20 Grand Slam titles in his career.
"Mental toughness and mental strength is one of the most important key factors for successful career, especially for the long term. I was able to achieve that and that's one of the things I'm actually most proud of," stated Roger Federer when speaking about mindfulness-based strategies in a video by Credit Suisse.
"I think I had a long process of getting my mental strength going. Took me I'd say almost three years to figure myself out on court, how am I happy. I always call it the fire and ice situation. The fire wanting to win and being excited after a good point and ice-coolness of accepting losses, accepting bad shots, accepting the crowd and I think I found a good balance after 3 years on Tour," said Federer.
