"It feels like a different world" - Thiem after scoring first ATP win in 426 days

| by Drew Tate

Dominic Thiem's last win before today happened in May of 2021 and since then it's been 426 days without a win on the ATP tour.

It ended today with a win in Bastad against Emil Ruusuvuori and it's a huge relief for the popularly called Domi. Thiem missed a lot of time with a wrist injury that he reinjured during his first recovery period and ever since then he battled inconsistencies in his game. He returned a while ago during the clay seasons but failed to score a single win across a couple of events.

He eventually broke the dry spell last week in Salzburg at a challenger event but he failed to score win number two since recovering from the injury. It finally came today and it was actually a pretty decent comeback win for Thiem against a very solid player.

The Austrian lost the opening set easily only to find his stroke in the 2nd set. He was down a break in the final one but advanced after his opponent committed a double fault on match point. A good win for him as he tries to rebuild his confidence ahead of the US Open where he lifted the trophy in 2020.
