Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios had a really heated clash at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships and after the match, the Greek made a stunning albeit unsurprising admission.
Kyrgios and Tsitsipas don’t particularly like each other, and it was very clear during their most recent Wimbledon clash. There was a lot of tense energy on the court, and it only got worse as the match went on.
Tsitsipas stunningly won the opening set despite being an underdog, but as the match continued, the Australian proved better and better. Tsitsipas lost his cool a couple of times during the match, hitting a ball into the stands at one time.
Kyrgios pleaded with the umpire that it was a default-worthy action, but the umpire dismissed it, and the match continued. While Kyrgios won the match in the end, the negative vibes didn’t evaporate.
They continued after the match, with both players making some really interesting comments. Tsitsipas, on his part, admitted that at one point, he was aiming at Kyrgios, which the Australian understood as well.
"I was aiming for the body of my opponent but I missed by a lot."
When asked by the press why he was aiming at his opponent, the Greek player admitted that he was frustrated with the behavior of Kyrgios, who, in fairness, got under the Greek player's skin.
"Just to stop. This needs to stop, it's not okay. Someone needs to sit down with him and talk. I don't know what to say. There's frustration behind that for sure. I'm not used to play this way. But I can't just sit there and act like a robot and act like someone who is completely cold and ignorant."
It was certainly an interesting clash for some watching at Wimbledon, while others likely thought that such behavior didn't belong to the tennis courts.
