Benoit Paire has not enjoyed tennis much since the pandemic started and he described this in a recent exclusive interview with racquet.com.
Benoit Paire has garnered numerous headlines over the last two years, but rarely as a result of his tennis prowess. Although he hasn't played much recently, he is a good player and has produced some memorable moments on the court throughout the years.
“I had covid-19 four times and did a 14-day quarantine four times" explained Paire adding his struggle with the stricter rules as well:
"And it wasn't easy to enjoy life when I was playing in empty stadiums. That's not why I play tennis, I play to have fun with the fans. And when you play alone, without referees, with a robotic voice... I couldn't have fun and it wasn't easy for me. For me it's important not to be alone, to enjoy the time outside the court."
Due to that, Paire became depressed and ever since then it's been a battle for his mental health that is still going on. He's playing through it but he knows that he can get back to his best:
"I think that if I'm mentally well and I feel good physically, I can get back to my best and be top 20 again. I know that my tennis is not as it was before and that it is not perfect, but it will return to normal when my head is fine and my confidence returns."
