Daniil Medvedev recently revealed that he loves to watch all the tennis matches when he's playing at the event because he enjoys the sport.
It's common for tennis players to watch their fellow pros to study and learn crucial strategies that they can incorporate into their own game. This also helps in scouting potential opponents, and players can spot strengths and weaknesses.
For Medvedev, it is more than that. He wants to stay informed of the actual tournament he is playing in. He loves to keep track of the scores of his fellow competitors as a means to pass the time.
The Russian World No. 2 was asked about how much he pays attention to other matches during an event, and as usual, he gave detailed responses explaining why he does so.
"I'm following all the matches because I like tennis, I like to watch tennis. Especially when I'm in a tournament I like to put myself in this, let's say, tennis zone."
"I watch all the matches you know, I'm just checking the scores, because yeah a lot of interesting matches. Especially yesterday I think, If I'm not mistaken, three guys from love-2 went back to win the match. Tsitsipas also, the only thing that in my hotel room I don't have Eurosport."
"I cannot watch the night session matches because well, I'm watching something on the laptop just to relax and I put tennis on the TV in the background. I like to follow tennis, I like to watch all the matches and I love to follow. Just watch and see who wins."
Medvedev is set to face Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic in the third round of the 2022 Roland Garros. He has won each of his opening two matches without dropping a set in just his second tournament after recovering from a hernia operation.
