How Prince of Saudi Arabia caused that Zverev arrived 30 minutes late for match against Medvedev

On Thursday, Alexander Zverev arrived 30 minutes late for his quarterfinal match against Daniil Medvedev at the 2022 Diriyah Tennis Cup in Saudi Arabia.

The German, who is returning from an injury, started the day well by beating Dominic Thiem but in the quarterfinals, he went on to lose to Medvedev in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. However, their match started 30 minutes later than in twas expected and it was because of Zverev, who got held up in traffic.

The delay was caused by heavy traffic and security measures put in place for the meeting between Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed Bin Salman Al-Saud and President of China HE Xi Jinping.

The meeting between Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and President Xi Jinping was part of a larger effort to strengthen ties between Saudi Arabia and China. Despite the controversy surrounding the tournament and the disruption caused by the high-level meeting, many tennis fans were excited to see some of the world's top players compete in Saudi Arabia.

The tournament, which runs from December 8-10, features a star-studded lineup including Stan Wawrinka, Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Nick Kyrgios and many more.

Overall, the late arrival of Alexander Zverev due to security measures for the meeting between Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and President Xi Jinping added an unexpected wrinkle to the 2022 Diriyah Tennis Cup.
