Holger Rune Shuts Downs Comparisons To Nadal, Federer & Djokovic

| by Sebastian Dahlman

Holger Rune clapped back at people pulling his Big Three comment out of context because he didn't compare himself to Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal.

Rune made headlines recently when he used his name along with Big Three in the same sentences and that's a big no-no for many tennis fans. The Danish player was talking about the future and his tennis career admitting to wanting to form a new big three alongside Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, like a next-gen big three.

However, those comments were extrapolated in a way that made it seem as if he was comparing himself directly to the big three which he branded ridiculous on Twitter.

I was asked if I would like to see myself as the next big 3. Who wouldn’t? That said I think comparing is ridiculous. I have been playing the pro tour for 2 years. Impossible to compare with results from guys with 20 years on tour. Let’s just enjoy some good tennis right now.

The quick response from the Danish player shows his improved media savviness because he was burned a few times in the past when he had to clarify his stances on social media. He jumped ahead of that this time around but it's a good intervention because so many things get blown out of proportion due to misrepresentation, especially on social media.

His response came after 'We are tennis' on Twitter made it seem like he declared it instead of offering an opinion because there is a subtle difference there as one might be backed by confidence while the other might be perceived as arrogant.

Either way, Rune is one of the most talented young players and there is no denying that. He'll be part of the tennis future one way or another.
