Gael Monfils is one of the players that struggles with an injury every now and then and it's no different during the 2022 season which was a really sad one for him so far.
The Frenchman started with a title in Adelaide as he didn't lose a set on his way to the title. However, the very next week, he was forced to retire from his match in the second tournament in Adelaide. Then, Gael Monfils spent almost whole clay-court season away from courts until he returned in Montreal.
He defeated his first two opponents but in his 3rd round match against Jack Draper, he was troubled by the injury again and retired from the match. Gael Monfils was also supposed to be the top-seeded player at the 2022 Winston-Salem Open, but following his retirement from the match against Draper, he withdrew from the event.
Now, the 35-years-old Frenchman also withdrew from the fourth Grand Slam of the season and therefore, he will miss three Grand Slam tournaments in one season for the first time since 2012 when he also didn't play anything after the Australian Open.
