Ferrer refuses to compare Alcaraz to Nadal, Djokovic, Federer

| by Balasz Virag

As the biggest tennis talent to emerge in years, Carlos Alcaraz was always going to be compared to Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer

However, compatriot and former player David Ferrer is not a fan of it. There will most likely never be an era of tennis as influential as the big three era simply due to the magnitude of how impactful each of them was. No tennis player ever was as popular as Roger Federer was. Nobody ever played as well on clay as Nadal did and nobody ever will probably eclipse Novak Djokovic when he's done.

The shadow of them is a really big one and nobody should be forced to walk behind it. It's why Ferrer is very reluctant to compare Alcaraz or anybody to those legends because his compatriot should be given a chance to carve out his own legacy.

He has charisma, he is close to the crowd and, above all, he has a really spectacular game, with a lot of power. He is also a player who has fun on the court and people notice that. He is already No. 1 and the youngest ever to win a Grand Slam. He is breaking one record after another.

Ferrer on Alcaraz

Alcaraz was already able to dethrone the members of the big three in some ways but expecting him to do so completely is unreasonable. Even so, Ferrer is certain that Alcaraz is a player who will be part of both Spanish and tennis history in general. In some ways, he already is.

I don't want to compare him to Nadal, [Novak] Djokovic or [Roger] Federer because their shadow is very difficult to match. But without a doubt he will be a player who will mark an era in Spanish and world tennis.
