Emma Raducanu did not have any specific goals for 2023 expecting a tough season but she's setting some for the upcoming season.
The previous year was expected to mark Raducanu's transition into a professional. She went through the motions, learning how challenging it can be to maintain a healthy physique all year long, and she is entering 2023 much more conscious of what it takes.
"One of my biggest goals is to – it might not come this year, but to go out on the court and not think about my fitness, not think about, Oh, like start the timer, I've got 60 minutes to finish this match," explained Raducanu who worked very hard in the gym during the off-season.
"I want to be able to go out there and just focus on the tennis. I think this year I'm in a better position but it's still going to take some time to develop fully," added Raducanu who is hoping to avoid the many injuries she had in 2022.
Goals-wise, she wants to win a title: "I think my goal in 2023 is probably to win a title."
She's also approaching it with far more precision than before to avoid overdoing it: "I really obviously want to work hard, try to get back on court as much as possible but I could overdo it if I didn't really think it through because I want to be back on court so much.
