Goran Ivanisevic candidly told reporters that Novak Djokovic's record 24 Grand Slam wins transcended far beyond tennis, calling it 'one of the biggest achievements in sports history.'
The Croat, who has coached Djokovic since 2019, oversaw an eighth Grand Slam title win under their partnership when the Serbian downed Russia's Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to win a record-tying 24th Grand Slam triumph.
Djokovic ended his Grand Slam season in 2023 lifting three of the tennis' most coveted trophies and finishing runner-up in the fourth. Djokovic is the first player to win a hat-trick of Grand Slams in the same season on four occasions.
It was a proud moment for Ivanisevic, who under his tutelage, Djokovic continues to enjoy his most productive stint as a player. So when the Croatian former ATP No. 2 entered the press room, he did not hold back in making a telling admission about a man he calls 'a one-of-a-kind'. And when he delved into his latest landmark, Ivanisevic says Djokovic's record is one of the greatest in the sporting arena.
"He's one of a kind. Not too many people in this world like him sport-wise. This is one of the biggest achievements in sports history. We're not talking about tennis. We are talking generally in sport."
"He's a winner. He's the guy who is motivating self. He had luck to have a guy like Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer, they came before him, so they pushed each other."
Ivanisevic fired a warning shot to the chasing pack that Djokovic is determined as ever to vie for the biggest titles for as long as he keeps playing, adding that he won't stop at 24.
"He just enjoying, he likes the challenges. Like you ask me 25 [slams], yeah, if he wins 25, he's going to think, If I win 25, why not 26? It's always one more, something more."
