Novak Djokovic played another great match to reach his 48th Grand Slam semi-final at the 2024 Australian Open, the most in history.
No player has been as dominant at the Australian Open as Novak Djokovic. He won the event last year, the 10th time he did it, and he's now only two matches away from winning his 11th title in Melbourne.
A quarter-final matchup with Taylor Fritz sounded somewhat complicated, but he handled it about as well as he could. The match was complicated for about two sets, but after that, Djokovic cruised easily, winning it in four sets.
By doing that, he ensured a 48th Grand Slam semi-final appearance, which is amazing because it's the most any player has ever played. Before this event, the Serbian was ahead of Roger Federer, who has 46 Grand Slam semi-finals, the second-most out.
By advancing to the semi-final at this year's event, Djokovic now has 48, which is the highest ever, not by one, but already by two. Rafael Nadal is third on that list with 38 semi-finals, which shows how far ahead both Federer and Djokovic are.
It's a pretty impressive confirmation of Djokovic's consistency and a further point for him in the GOAT debate. The number is certainly set to rise as the Serbian isn't likely to retire anytime soon, so he'll likely be the first man ever to crack 50 Grand Slam semi-finals and quite possibly the only one to do so for a very long time.
There are only four majors per year, which means 48 equals 12 consecutive years of making the semi-final at all four Grand Slams.
That's insane as they're played on different surfaces, with different balls, at different times of the year, and the rest of the list, which is too long to name. Incredible consistency. Legendary consistency.
