Novak Djokovic has cruised into the third round of the US Open without dropping a set, and Tim Henman feels most players fear facing the Serbian world number one on current form.
With incredible efficiency, Djokovic ousted Alexandre Muller in the first round and gave away just five games throughout the contest. Then, the 36-year-old comfortably beat Bernabe Zapata Miralles in straight sets in round two and dropped just six games during the match.
Aiming to continue his impressive recent form and reach his fourth Grand Slam final of the season, Djokovic looks increasingly likely to progress at Flushing Meadows. When speaking to Sky Sports about Djokovic's current form, former player Tim Henman said most ATP players will be unable to cope with the 23-time Grand Slam winner's approach.
"That's the challenge for so many of these players, they kind of know what they're up against before they go on because he's been playing so well, so consistently for so long. Are the vast majority of these players beaten before they step on the court? They probably are."
Next up for Djokovic is a third-round tie against his Serbian compatriot Laslo Djere, who is ranked 38th in the ATP standings. While Djokovic will enter the match as the out-and-out favourite to win, Henman said that players trying to defeat the world number one will have to be at the top of their game and try to take on Djokovic to even stand a chance of winning.
"But you go out there and you give it your best shot, you're trying to take those risks. But when you see Djokovic just controlling things from the back of the court, his serve is so accurate, you get into these baseline exchanges with his movement and it's just a joke how efficient he is."
