Novak Djokovic is currently without a coach, and he admitted to considering continuing his tennis career without a coach.
There was never a time when the Serbian player was without any kind of coach. He spent much of his career with Marian Vajda but more recently worked exclusively with Goran Ivanisevic.
There were others like Boris Becker, but now it seems like we won't see any coach with him in the future. He shocked the tennis community by parting ways with Ivanisevic and then dismissed suggestions that he was hiring a new coach immediately.
He worked with good friend and former ATP doubles world no. 1, Nenad Zimonjic, at the Monte-Carlo Masters but admitted at the Laureus Awards that he is considering simply continuing without a full-time coach.
He even spoke about Zimonjic, explaining that their cooperation at the Monte-Carlo Masters simply happened because they are good friends, and it's not something either is looking at making permanent.
"Basically, we don't have any kind of commitment. It's based on the relationship that has existed for many years. I’m considering whether I should or shouldn’t have the coach; I'm considering different things."
Nobody but Djokovic ultimately knows what he's going to do. Obviously, he's considering many different options, and we'll see in the coming weeks and months what his final decision might be.
As Andy Roddick pointed out weeks ago, anybody could really coach Djokovic, given his incredible experience. For now, the 24-time Grand Slam champion is content with how things went with Zimonjic, and the two may continue working together for the time being.
"But I had a really good time with Nenad Zimonjic as my coach in the last three weeks. So you know, we are talking about continuing and seeing – let’s see."
