| by Drew Tate

This was a spectacular match where both played well at times but in the end, the youthness of Alcaraz proved too much to overcome for Ramos 6-1 6-7(7) 5-7 7-6(2) 6-4.

This was not a very good match by Carlos Alcaraz but you never would have known that by the way, the opening set went. Alcaraz came out on fire hitting winners left and right as Ramos struggled to stay in the rallies. Carlitos had 9 winners to only 2 of Ramos and that was enough for the 6-1 thrashing. Things changed a bit after that.

Ramos finally settled into a nice rhythm in the 2nd set and the match was much more competitive. Ramos did not play that much better in the 2nd set making a lot of mistakes but Alcaraz greatly helped him. The young Spaniard committed 24 unforced errors in the 2nd set losing it in the tiebreak. He simply played a bit too ambitious at times and it did not work.

The 3rd set was quite similar to the 2nd one but Ramos took an early break which he gave back about two games later. Then he played an excellent game at 5-5 to take a 6-5 lead and finished it off with 7-5. The 4th set was a mad one. Alcaraz took an early break but Ramos fought back. Ramos then took a 5-4 lead and had a match point in the next game but Carlitos survived.

In the tiebreak it was Alcaraz who cruised 7-2. The final set opened with Ramos again taking an early break but Alcaraz was able to fight back once more and make it 3-3. He then broke once more for the 4-3 lead but Ramos did the same for 4-4. Alcaraz broke once more for the 5-4 lead with an incredible point on break point. He hit 3 aces in the next game to close it out.
